Please note: this course has Prerequisites

A Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) Operator cuts metal and plastic parts to specific dimensions. CNC operators are very involved with the quality production of parts to meet customer specifications across many facets of the manufacturing industry. This program continues training on concepts from the Level I Course. Students will learn the basics of Renishaw Ballbar Testing. This testing provides a simple, rapid check of a CNC machine tool's positioning performance to recognized international standards (e.g. ISO, ANSI/ASME etc.) allowing users to bench-mark and track the performance of their machines and to quickly diagnose problems that may require maintenance and the error sources that produce them.

Additionally, students will learn about Renishaw Probes and their use. Probing is an established best practice for maximizing the efficiency, quality, capability and accuracy of machine tools. Standard routines built into modern CNC controls simplify the integration of probing cycles into machining operations and offline tools. Students will complete hands-on projects using HAAS CNC Mill and HAAS CNC Lathe within the specified tolerances. The course is composed of 150 classroom hours.

Completers of this course are encouraged to sit for the following NIMS Level I (entry level) certification exams:
CNC Mill Operations;
CNC Mill Programming, Set Up and Operations;
CNC Lathe Operations; and
CNC Lathe Programming, Set Up and Operations.

The NIMS testing fees are not included in the course fee. Go to the NIMS website https://www.nims-skills.org/ for details or you may contact them by phone at (703) 352-4971 or toll free at (844) 839-6467.
