Course Description

The Motorcycle Safety classes at Greenville Technical College are offered through the South Carolina Rider Education Program (SCREP). The SCREP provides rider training for individuals of all skill levels to include those who have never ridden a motorcycle and are interested in learning basic skills to the experience rider looking to sharpen skills.

Greenville County has the highest number of registered motorcycles in the state. These courses are taught as a public service to the community to help ensure riders have the proper training in order to ride safely.

Course curriculum for all levels of safety training is in compliance with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. All Rider Coaches are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Beginning Level - This course covers the basic skills for new and first-time rider. Students will learn location and operations of controls, how to start, stop, turn and shift, as well as balance and control of motorcycle.

Control and balance are two key factors. Looking in the direction of where you want the motorcycle to go is a third major factor of motorcycling.

Students must provide personal protective gear and are responsible for proper usage of the gear. All personal equipment must be worn at all times while on a motorcycle during the course. Students must wear a DOT approved (full face or three quarters) helmet, over-the-ankle footwear, long pants, long sleeved shirt or jacket, full fingered gloves, and eye protection.

GTC has a supply of helmets available in various sizes. You may bring a personally owned helmet. Style and proper fit is the STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY and must meet the minimum DOT Standard. NO HALF HELMETS PERMITTED.

Hours: 20.00

Class meets Friday 6-10 PM (classroom only, no riding equipment needed), Saturday and Sunday 8 AM - 5 PM. NOTE: Successful class completion is dependent upon student's performance. You MUST attend all class hours; pass both a written and a practical assessment. Tardiness is not permitted. ACTIVE RIDING PARTICIPATION IS PROHIBITED once any portion is missed.

Motorcycles provided by Greenville Technical College for the beginning level.
Greenville Technical College provides the helmets. Helmets have been donated by Harley-Davidson of Greenville.
