Course Description

As a Medical Physician Practice Clerk, you are often the first person the patient sees when he or she walks through the door. You are truly on the front lines, representing the practice to the public. Work settings can vary from the hospital to a small family practice.

In this six week course you will learn an array of job duties in the medical office from making appointments, to medical records, medical coding, bookkeeping, and insurance and patient collections.

This course provides comprehensive coverage of practical, real-world medical office skills needed to thrive in any healthcare setting. The Medical Physician Practice Clerk is a rewarding career for someone who wants to work in the healthcare field and enjoys helping others

With this course, there is a one week clinical where you will be able to work and observe in a medical office. The following online courses are required prior to clinical: HIPAA (BOB797), HIPAA II (BOC826), OSHA (BOC824), National Medicare (BOC766) and PreClinal (BOC757).

Prerequisites to become a MPPC student:
*Possess a high school diploma or GED
*Must have criminal background check
*Present negative TB test and flu shot immunization record

Fee: $697.00

Mandatory handout fee $25 and clinical fee $40 automatically added on to cost of registration fees. REQUIRED: Must obtain a criminal background check either before or after registering but MUST be done before class begins. Final acceptance into the program is dependent upon the background check results. Approx. cost is $40. To obtain and sign paperwork for background check, come to the Registration desk at the Buck Mickel Center. **Background check must be done with SR&I** Also must present negative 2-step TB test first night of class (2 injections & 2 readings; both readings must be negative). Current influenza vaccination for clinical period is required (summer clinicals are exempt) Proof of immunizations or titers is required Additional online courses required for MPPC: HIPAA (BOD689) $109, OSHA (BOC824) $89, National Medicare (BOC766) $100, and Preclinical (BOC757)$42. Lab will be 8/21 in BMC 269. Required Orientation date July 10th at 5:00 pm. 1st day of class starts July 17th. Required 40 hours of non-paid clinicals will be held 8/28/17 - 9/1/17 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Students are required to contact Amy Turner #864-250-8518 after they have registered for orientation.
