This training focuses on developing the three modes of interpretation used by professional medical interpreters: consecutive, simultaneous interpretation, and on-site translation. Instruction will be primarily directed at developing the skills needed to interpret effectively in the healthcare environment.

All class periods will have a practicum component. Interpretation, memory, listening, and note-taking techniques will be presented, discussed, and practiced.

These classes meet the training requirements from both The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters and The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.

After successful completion of the four levels, students will be eligible to take the national certification exam for either or both certifying organizations.

Class meets in-person on Monday, November 13, 2023. All other class meetings are on-line. Course meets Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. Course materials included in cost of class. Levels 1, 3, and 4 are non-language specific. Level 2 is language specific (must be bilingual in English and Spanish-written and spoken).
