Become a vital member of the healthcare team. You will be trained to collect blood samples which enable physicians to diagnose and treat illnesses. Course fee includes lecture, lab practice and 120 clinical hours. Successful completion of this course provides eligibility for the ASCP National Certification Exam.

REQUIREMENTS:

* High school diploma, GED, or Higher Education degree

* 18 years of age

* Criminal background check

* Current Driver's License or State Issued ID

* CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider

* Preclinical Orientation for Continuing Education

* A completed physical form with documentation of immunization history or positive titer levels for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B (waiver acceptable), proof of Tetanus shot within the last 10 years, negative Quantiferon-TB test, Flu Vaccination (mandatory), Covid Vaccination (mandatory).

This is a HYBRID course. Students will complete mandatory VIRTUAL meetings online and perform FACE-TO-FACE meetings in a classroom for hands-on skills. TENATIVE OFF CAMPUS CLINICAL ROTATION SCHEDULE: Clinical Rotation dates--Rotation 1 Clinical: 6/13/2022 through 7/1/2022. Rotation 2 Clinical: 7/11/2022 through 7/29/2021. Clinicals are DAY TIME HOURS (8:00am to 5:00pm). Students will attend one of these Clinical Externship Rotations (designated by random selection). No class meeting on Memoiral Day, May 30, 2022 and college closed. No student in Clinical the week of July 4th (July 4, 2022-July 8, 2022). REQUIRED: A criminal background check is mandatory! Students will receive a Criminal Background (CB) authorization form (cost for the CB is approx. $40) with the phlebotomy packet (via email). Final acceptance into the program is dependent upon the initial background check results (may need to be repeated during on-campus training). Phlebotomy Packets are sent out via email, approx. 4 weeks before class begins. Students will be scheduled for 120 hours (3 weeks) of clinical externship during the last 6 weeks of the course. Clinicals are daytime hours, Monday - Friday (8:00am to 5:00pm). If you foresee difficulties completing the clinical component during these hours, you MUST discuss this issue with the program manager (Rhonda Anderson at 250-8338) PRIOR TO REGISTERING for the class. REQUIRED TEXT: DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO CLASS - Phlebotomy Essentials 6th ed. Textbook Bundle, Ruth E. McCall, available at the Greenville Technical College bookstore.
