This fast-paced course prepares the learner on how to set up, monitor, collect and analyze the physiological data needed to perform a sleep study. At the end of this 80 hours of training, students that complete successfully will be able to sit for the A STEP final examination as they work to complete the pathways toward becoming a Sleep Technician (please visit AASMnet.org to investigate requirements/ additional fees of the certification pathways). Also includes review of anatomy & physiology, basic cardiac dysrhythmia as it relates to sleep, and PAP Titration.

Class size is limited to six students. Participants receive online as well as in-classroom instruction and are then required to demonstrate the skills needed to perform different types of sleep studies.
Who should attend?
Healthcare professionals with certification such as an EMT, CMA, EEG technician or neurodiagnostic technician, RN/LPN, Respiratory Therapists, and Healthcare professionals who have had previous sleep lab experience. High School diploma or a GED is required
Requirements for acceptance to the program:
The acceptance process includes a personal interview and approval from the program manager, certification in a health care profession, an acceptable multi-state criminal background check, current healthcare provider CPR card, and current immunizations. If you do not have a healthcare background, EMT- Basic is recommended.
NOTE: Greenville Technical College is accredited as a A-STEP provider. Beginning July 2008, any candidate qualifying for the BRPT examination process must meet eligibility requirements by submitting proof of completion of the A-STEP Introductory Course and proof of completion of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine's A-STEP self-learning modules, or an equivalent educational program, with their application to sit for the registry exam.
Required textbooks are included in the enrollment fee.
Bring highlighter and calculator. 3" binder recommended.
Clinical externship course highly recommended after the completion of the Introductory Course.
