President Lyndon Johnson signed the Medicare program into law July 30, 1965 and it became effective July 1, 1966. Medicare is our Nation's largest health insurance program, currently covering about 43 million Americans. Medicare covers many types of services, and people have options for how they can get their Medicare coverage.
This training module provides an overview of the Medicare program and the Medicare Advantage Plans. It explains who is eligible, when they can join and switch plans, how the plans work, and the differences between types of plans.
Upon completion you will be able to:
--Differentiate between the types of Medicare
--Understand the rights and protections of Medicare participants
--Have knowledge of appeals and marketing guidelines under Medicare
--Define Medicare prescription coverage
--Identify the programs available for people with limited income and resources
NOTE: This class is MANDATORY for Medical Insurance, Medical Coding, Hospital Coding, Medical Receptionist, Medical Physician Practice Clerk and Medical Office Management students.
