Course Description

Medical Assistant Section IV: Laboratory is the final section of the Medical Assistant Program. Students are instructed in basic laboratory skills used in an ambulatory care setting. Classes are held at the Northwest campus of Greenville Technical College in a state-of-the-art laboratory setting.

Topics Include:
* Laboratory Safety
* Specimen Collection and Preparation
* Venipuncture Techniques
* CLIA Waived Laboratory Procedures: Urinalysis, Chemistry, Hematology
* Practical Knowledge of Microbiology
* Principles of IV Therapy

PREREQUISITES: Successfully complete Medical Assistant I, II, and III.

Upon successful completion of all 4 Sections of the Medical Assistant Programs students are eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certification Examination which is offered 3 times a year. It is recommended that students take the Medical Assistant Certification Review class offered before each examination date to prepare for the exam.
