The medical industry is experiencing tremendous demand for individuals with knowledge of medical office operations, billing and coding. The business office of every healthcare provider must submit the proper documentation to a number of insurance companies for reimbursement. This requirement has created numerous opportunities for trained individuals to be employed in medical offices, clinics, and hospitals, as well as home-based opportunities.
This is an online class in which students will receive a working knowledge of medical billing and reimbursement, scheduling, maintaining medical records, preparing correspondence, and an introduction to the national diagnostic and procedural coding systems.
Upon successful completion of the course, the Administrative Medical Specialist (AMS) will be able to:
--Perform valuable front office functions for a medical office
--Discuss communication, equipment and organizational skills
--Describe medical coding, medical billing and insurance forms
--Explain how to input patient information, appointments and coding using medical software.
Students who successfully complete the course are qualified to take the CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) exam. This is accepted by many employers and licensing agencies as evidence of professional competence and experience.
