Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Course Description

A 208-hour SC-DHEC approved program to train individuals wishing to become a SC EMT. Teaches basic emergency skills and follows the 2009 EMS Educational Standards

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS :
Must have HS diploma or GED (bring copy to first night of class)
Must be eighteen years of age prior to the NR practical exam date
Must be physically fit, have good vision and hearing, and able to lift up to 125 pounds
Meet the minimum standards in math and reading on the ASSET or COMPASS placement test

Certification:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be eligible to take:
National Registry Practical Exam, fee is $100 and is taken at and payable to Upstate EMS, www.upstateems.com. The National Registry Written Exam Fee is $100 and payable to the National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians, www.nremt.org. Requires application to NREMT ($85).

Required Materials are available in the Greenville Technical College bookstore: 1) Prehospital Emergency Care Textbook and Workbook, and 2) American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers text, approximate cost of all books $200.
